The ancient Chinese Buddhist principles revived by Mikao Usui Sensei in his famous Gokai teach us to work hard, to refrain from negative behavioural responses towards others or ourselves, like anger and worry, and achieve positive behavioural patterns, like gratitude and kindness.

I hope that this will not be regarded as sacrilege. I do not suggest that the valuable principles that Mikao Usui Sensei formulated be completely replaced, as these principles have a universal value. I merely suggest that some people may benefit from tailoring these principles to their own needs for a limited period of time.
I suggest that someone may choose for each principle one of the following basic response patterns:
- First principle: Anger (Hatred, Intolerance) Disgust, Indifference, Frustration, Insecurity, Guilt, Contempt, Greed
- Second Principle: Stress, Restlessness, Anxiety, Sadness (Unhappiness), Worry (Fear, Despair, Panic), Grief, Shame, Submission, Envy (Rivalry, Jealousy)
- Third Principle: Relaxation, Calmness, Mindedness, Joy, Happiness, Faith (Confidence), Gratitude
- Fifth Principle: Love (Acceptance), Compassion (Kindness), Satisfaction, Trust, Peace.
