Can anyone learn Reiki?

Yes. Dr. Usui himself says in his Reiki handbook (see “Reiki, the legacy of Dr. Usui”) that anyone, regardless of their age, can learn Reiki. Reiki does not require any special abilities and can be learned by everyone. The only limitation is the people’s willingness to receive the initiation.

Although it is considered a spiritual practice, Reiki is not a religion and is used successfully throughout the world by people of all faiths and beliefs.

An attunement is an individual energetic transfer of energy from teacher to student that gives the receiver the ability to channel Reiki. Initiation refers to the whole process, including transfer of knowledge from the teacher to the student in a verbal, written or visual manner.

What happens after a Reiki course?

During the course, because the attunements are much more powerful than a regular Reiki session, the student experiences a unique energetic shift. That change triggers a process of cleansing which removes stress, negative patterns, and programs thus giving a new lease on health, prosperity, and attracting more meaningful and positive relationships in their lives. As a result, the student’s life changes for the better.

The cleansing process continues with the student’s practice of self-treatments. This healing process at all levels may trigger a mild healing crisis, specific to each student. This process is also followed by small daily energetic shifts.

Why do level 1 Reiki students have to perform self-healing sessions for 21 days?

The first Reiki attunements induce a powerful energetic shift in a person. This shift is better assimilated by the student’s body when it is followed by small daily changes achieved through self-treatments. The cleansing effect of these self-healing sessions is cumulative, and this is the reason why one has to perform them in a minimum of 21 consecutive days. If this process is interrupted for any reason, it should be started all over again. Historically, this process mirrors Mikao Usui’s 21-day meditation period on the Kurama Mountain.

When is a student ready for the next Reiki level?

When the student actively practices Reiki for a certain period of time, a new energetic level is attained. At this level, the student is ready to face the energetic shift triggered by a new course.

Each student needs a different period of time for this process to take place. Both the teacher and the student know when is the right moment.

How can a student connect with other Reiki practitioners?

All Reiki-Do students can practice Reiki healing as well as share their experiences during Reiki Share evenings, monthly gatherings facilitated by their teachers. While connecting with other practitioners, they can express their concerns, find answers to their questions, and share in the joy and love that are the keynotes of these evenings.

All men dream: but not equally.
Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity.
But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.

T.E. Lawrence
